The Studio Series is a periodic, evolving project that unites perfumery, writing, and art, in an exploration and analysis of the processes and phenomena of fragrance.
First, it provides perfume collectors with wearable perfumes-in-progress, as the perfumer experiences themself. Each samples a different moment in the chronology of an evolving fragrance composition, each vial an opportunity to enjoy the mostly secret variations which fragrances go through before completion. This reveals a unique olfactive narrative hardly found in large-scale commercial perfumery.
Second, each set features original writing and artwork, presenting different perspectives on a theme, commissioned from collaborators who hold sharp views in and outside the perfume community.
Studio Series 10 premieres in late August and features an essay, Notes on the History of Perfumery, by independent perfumer Carter Weeks Maddox of Chronotope Perfumes. Artist Somnath Bhatt has been commissioned to create a beautiful print zine to illustrate the set.
Pre-order bundles for Studio Series 10 are now available and will ship in their entirety upon release.
Studio Series 9 consists of seven perfume samples: three iterations of a new Remix Project; plus three iterations and the completed release of After Every Ounce of Joy (Leaves My Body), a new perfume. An essay on trauma, vessels, and perfume by writer, artist, and Instagram Stories superstar Sunday Williams (@sundaysmells) was commissioned for and elaborates this project. The essay is presented as a digital zine with an accompanying screenprint.
